Walt Disney World with a Toddler
Ok so being new to this whole mom thing, I was super stressed out when I thought about taking my then 14month old to my favorite place on earth.
Well first off, there was no need to stress. I just had to know how to plan. So I started off doing research. The web is a wealth of information and I was able to find most of the answers to the questions surrounding our vacation.
I was very concerned first of all with the food. We always just ate when we hungry not on any sort of schedule. But with a baby you just can’t do that. Our Libby is a very picky eater and not all of the restaurants had anything she would eat.
In true Disney fashion, if they can help you they will. We choose to eat at Pecos Bill and there was just nothing she would eat at that time on the menu. The cast member overheard us and they made a special grilled cheese sandwich. I was soooo thankful!
Pack lots of snacks! We will be taking a soft sided cooler with apples, cheese, water and powerade zero. In the regular bag will be some applesauce, goldfish and crystal light packets.
One trick we do is to pack a small bag of goldfish or cheerios and put it in one of our pockets. This is for those line or ride meltdowns. It takes the edge off and is a nice distraction!
Another thing that I was really concerned about was the stroller. I wondered if my stuff would be safe in the stroller while we rode rides. Or if it would be in the place I left it.
It was safe! And I felt safe leaving my diaper bag and cooler in it all day. They have cast member that are in those stroller parking areas. They watch over things and keep in order. The bad thing about that is that they will sometimes move strollers around. This is to help keep the order not to mess you up.
What I figured out most of all is that I have to remember to take it slow and not to forget about me. I know as a mom that those don’t mean anything in our world. I need to stop and smell the mickey pretzel while at Disney with my family.
I have to remember that everyone needs breaks and lots of liquids. We don’t have the luxury of not eating. We have to stop and take care of us.
I was nervous about this because we are on such schedules and don’t want to miss anything. We didn’t. We took lots of breaks and had no break downs. Yes, I said NO breakdowns.
All the years we went with just adults we always had breakdowns. But when we actually took care of ourselves everyone seemed happier and more relaxed, which made for more memories to cherish!
